Neighbourhood Information

An article has been published in the local newspaper 17th December in relation to building works due to commence early January 2010.

The statement reads that the Hotel is adding a 200 seat Restaurant and kitchen, this is a wholly untrue and totally misleading statement, the article also states (quote) “the fact that this is for one individual is a major concern”, makes one wonder what value if any this councillor puts on our 117 employees and their families, who live and shop within the borough not to mention the job creation this contract offers to an ailing building industry.

The facts in relation to this project are as follows,  the work involves the demolition of the existing Restaurant seating 78 people and replacing it in the location of the present kitchen, the replacement Restaurant will seat 69 people but will be totally accessible for people with disabilities, the relocated kitchen is transferred to the rear of the building (formerly the restaurant) but is raised to street level to get rid of 4 sets of steps.

This scheme was approved by the councillors who are now expressing surprise at the fact that it is a difficult building project, which was obvious to them at proposal stage, our architects and design team have had discussions with Roads Services, traffic branch and traffic management personnel and are currently preparing revised proposals, to minimise possible disruption, to our neighbours and to the well being of the Village as a whole.

Demolition and excavation works are hazardous tasks and must involve stringent health and safety measures for site workers, pedestrians and vehicular traffic hence the traffic lights.

It is our earnest intention to keep disruption of any kind to an absolute minimum and are mindful of the concerns of our neighbours.

I am confident that when you see the finished building, you will agree that this part of our building which is presently unsightly will be a much more attractive entrance to the Village.

Signed

Paul Rice
